Performer Writer
Artist Residency
In January 2009, sponsored by Desert Foothills Theater and Desert Foothills Community Education with support from the Arizona Commission on the Arts, Libby worked for two weeks with teachers and students at Black Mountain Elementary School and Desert Arroyo Middle School to increase literacy content knowledge in the connections between storytelling, writing & performance. She provided lecture demonstrations to kindergarten through 5th grade classes, then worked with a core group of fourth-grade classes on a more in-depth storytelling project. At the middle school, she worked with 8th grade students on their World War II unit, sharing scenes from Lilia! and A Time to Dance directly related to World War II, and discussing with students the development process for her work.
