GARY AUSTIN (Director of Works in Progress) Gary Austin received a BA Degree in Theatre at San Francisco State University. He performed with the improv company, The Committee, in San Francisco, and created The Groundlings, an improvisational theatre company in Los Angeles.
Gary conducts workshops in Los Angeles, New York, Seattle, Chicago, and Nashville. He also co-teaches with Carol Fox Prescott, Wenndy MacKenzie and Lindsay Crouse. Gary Austin has formed an alliance with award winning Deaf West Theatre in North Hollywood, California, "The Gary Austin Workshops in Association with Deaf West Theatre." Gary conducts workshops composed of both deaf and hearing actors. Gary is developing theatre projects in New York and Los Angeles, some of which are currently in production. He also directs Works in Progress for Artistic New Directions in New York, and produces and directs Works in Progress in Los Angeles and Seattle. "My purpose in presenting these original works is to help people develop projects of their own." Gary has performed his solo show, Church in New York at various venues, including Center Stage/NY and The 78th Street Lab Theatre, Los Angeles at various venues, including The Groundling Theatre, Santa Fe, Seattle, and in Fort Collins, Colorado at Bas Bleu Theatre. Gary's students work throughout the world of entertainment, and many work in other fields of endeavor. The principles, concepts, and techniques of the workshops are carried into the workplace.
